Stephania Erecta
Sprouted: You will receive a bulb that is already sprouting. All sprouted bulbs are at different stages so yours may vary from the ones pictured, but they've all begun to sprout. The first photo shows the beautiful foliage you can expect once the green peltate leaves grow out.
NOTE: Please be an informed buyer. The extra cost you're paying for Sprouted is the fact that it has successfully sprouted, NOT the size of the stem.
Not Sprouted: You will receive a bulb (not sprouted) about 2-3" in diameter. These bulbs are a larger size, so they're bigger than other smaller ones you may see elsewhere.
Shipping: All bulbs will be shipped in a plastic nursery pot in soil and covered with poly-fil and bubble wrap for a safe and clean transport.
If you need a heat pack, please order one here. Chat with us below if you have any questions.
More Info:
The Stephania erecta plant has gained popularity in recent years due to one almost comical aspect: it looks a lot like a sprouting potato.
This specimen is no spud, however: it is a hardy, almost completely self-sustaining houseplant from Thailand. Its green, shield-shaped leaves grow atop tall, thin green stalks, giving it an even more whimsical appearance, and the “potato” that forms its base (which is actually called a “caudex”) holds in moisture and nutrients. This means that you rarely have to water or fertilize it, making it the perfect plant for busy/forgetful gardeners.
It thrives best in soil made for cacti and succulents and can grow to up to 3 feet tall, with its caudex topping out at around 6 or 7 inches wide.
After its initial potting, the Stephania erecta plant can grow in the same pot for 3 years before it needs to be repotted. It goes dormant every year in the winter, during which time you can pay even less attention to it, as it requires nothing but some light, some warmth, and a bit of water every month or two.
Stephania erecta may start out as something a bit grubby-looking, but it grows into something bright, beautiful, and vibrant, which is something all of us now-beautiful gardeners/humans can relate to!

We ship from Los Angeles, and we only ship within the United States. We do not ship to Hawaii / Canada / International. We typically ship on Mondays or Tuesdays to avoid plants being stuck in transit over the weekends, but we may sometimes ship later in the week depending on order volume. With that said, we cannot guarantee or control delivery time. If delivery time is a concern, please opt for upgraded shipping.
We take great care when packaging and preparing your plants for shipment. They'll be shipped either in a nursery pot in soil or sphagnum moss, or shipped bare root wrapped in sphagnum moss or other damp material to retain moisture. We also add poly-fil around the plant for padding, then wrap it in bubble wrap, and finally add packing peanuts for extra cushion to ensure a safe and clean transport.
We also offer local pick-up if you're in the Los Angeles area.
