It isn’t often that a plant calls to mind a dairy product, so when you hear about this "Swiss cheese plant," you might find it a bit odd. Fortunately (or unfortunately, if you’re in the mood for a snack), the Monstera Borsigiana doesn’t actually produce cheese (or smell like it): it got its nickname due to the holes in its enormous green leaves.

Other than just looking pretty, those big, holey leaves serve the important purpose of allowing the plant to collect more light filtering through the leaves of other plants in its native jungles of Panama and Mexico. In captivity, it prefers bright, indirect, but filtered light or, occasionally, copious amounts of shade, since it isn’t used to standing alone and directly exposed to the sun. Many people keep their Monstera Borsigiana on a plant stand so they can move it around when it wants different lighting.

You can typically start this Monstera in a one to two gallon pot, but by the time it reaches full maturity, you may need a 10-gallon one! This plant requires high humidity, well-draining soil, and watering only when the top three to four inches of its soil is dry. If you can provide it with all those things, along with the proper lighting, your cheesy friend can easily provide you with years of companionship.

At A Glance:

  • Light: Bright, indirect, filtered
  • Temperature: 65-80°F
  • Humidity: Medium-High
  • Water: Only whenever the top 3-4 inches of soil is dry
  • Pet-Friendly: No

We ship from Los Angeles, and we only ship within the United States. We do not ship to Hawaii / Canada / International. We typically ship on Mondays or Tuesdays to avoid plants being stuck in transit over the weekends, but we may sometimes ship later in the week depending on order volume. With that said, we cannot guarantee or control delivery time. If delivery time is a concern, please opt for upgraded shipping.

We take great care when packaging and preparing your plants for shipment. They'll be shipped either in a nursery pot in soil or sphagnum moss, or shipped bare root wrapped in sphagnum moss or other damp material to retain moisture. We also add poly-fil around the plant for padding, then wrap it in bubble wrap, and finally add packing peanuts for extra cushion to ensure a safe and clean transport.

We also offer local pick-up if you're in the Los Angeles area.

We're a U.S. based seller so our plants ship directly from our greenhouse in Los Angeles to your house. You don't have to worry about the hassles associated with ordering overseas. No worrying about phytosanitary certificates, plants being stuck in Customs or USDA inspection, or having to acclimate plants to their new environment. When you order from us, it's simple and straightforward. Our plants are rare, but our customer service is always well-done!
