Because peat comes at too high an environmental cost. Peat moss has filled commercial potting mixes since the 1960s, but harvesting it means stripping peat bogs — wetland ecosystems that store large amounts of carbon. Rosy Soil uses biochar and other amendments that work just as well for your plants without draining a carbon sink to do it.

2. How is Rosy Soil different from other soils?

5. Do I need to add perlite or anything else?

No. Rosy Soil is a complete mix — biochar and pine bark fines already handle drainage and aeration, so there's nothing extra to buy. Amend it if you like, but it's designed to work straight from the bag.

6. Will it help with fungus gnats?

Yes. The diatomaceous earth in the mix deters fungus gnats and other soil-dwelling pests, and because the soil drains fast instead of staying soggy, you're not giving gnats the damp surface they breed in.

7. How far does one bag go?

A 4-quart bag fills roughly 2–3 medium pots. The resealable, plastic-neutral bag keeps whatever's left fresh until your next repot.

We take great care when packaging and preparing your plants for shipment. They'll be shipped either in a nursery pot in soil or sphagnum moss, or shipped bare root wrapped in sphagnum moss or other damp material to retain moisture. We also add poly-fil around the plant for padding, then wrap it in bubble wrap, and finally add packing peanuts for extra cushion to ensure a safe and clean transport.
